Cristal City
Industrial design commission from PHILIPS Lighting France 2014. LED urban luminaire and line of supports.
LED street lighting has transformed the ecological and economical approach to light in just a few years. The aim was to reconstruct the marriage between glass and light with a free-standing basin capable of integrating into Paris “City of Light” in the long term. In 2015, the challenge for the City of Paris is to limit light pollution by replacing the entire fleet of energy-consuming lighting devices. The design of this luminaire was carried out in collaboration with all the specialists of Philips Lighting France.
A limpid light-bearing bowl: this design makes use of progress in LED technology to find the poetic presence of light associated with glass: each function is designed in terms of programming. The pure and efficient form is inhabited by a hologram which evolves in the center of this crystalline envelope according to the point of view. The total transparency lets the landscape come alive, adapts to different styles, to existing masts and avoids the accessories that were used to bend the light down to the ground so as not to waste any lux. The design of this luminaire was carried out in collaboration with all the specialists of Philips Lighting France.
The contemporary Cristal City line of brackets is inspired by this “bubble ready to fly held by the pole” that we have dressed in a stainless steel mantilla to attach the bursts of ambient light to it. The design of this luminaire was carried out in collaboration with all the specialists of Philips Lighting France.
This LED luminaire with transparent diffuser entered the vocabulary of shapes in Parisian media and then spread nationwide. This design was based on the technical performance of the Philips Lighting company: very low energy consumption, reduced maintenance (minimum every 15 years), attractive cost, quick installation, cutting-edge and upgradeable technology, reinforced resistance, interactive lighting . Outstanding locations in Paris In 2015, during COP 21, Cristal City was presented on the forecourt of the Hôtel de Ville by the City of Paris as the most efficient contemporary lighting of its generation. In 2016, its programming will reduce the intensity of light depending on the number of visitors. This function allows Cristal City, already well established from west to east in Paris, to be chosen to produce the first intelligent lighting for a cycle path located on the side alleys of Boulevard de Courcelles, between Parc Monceau and La place des Termes. Cristal City is also experimenting with light as a warning signal to prevent nocturnal intrusions into parks and greenways.
